The Bundestag’s recognition of the Holodomor as a genocide of Ukrainians is one of the steps in restoring justice, the head of the Foreign Ministry believes.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba explained why it is important for the German Bundestag to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people in November, when the 90th anniversary of this tragedy is celebrated. This is stated in his article for the publication Welt.
“Our lesson in history is that when we lose our own freedom and state, we are defenseless against genocide. At that time, Ukraine did not have its own government, let alone an army. This is one of the reasons why we are fighting fiercely for our right to exist today when a new Russian dictator has come to destroy our people in a genocidal war. We know that our lives and the lives of our children are at stake,” Hut asserts.
The Minister noted that 90 years ago, the world allowed millions of people to die at the hands of a tyrant.
“The least the world can do now for the victims of this crime is to tell the truth, call a spade and recognize the Holodomor as genocide,” said Kuleba.
He called on the Bundestag to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people “today, in November, on the eve of the 90th anniversary of this tragedy.”
“Now is the best time to recognize the Holodomor in the Bundestag. In Ukraine, such a need has arisen again. Again, the Russian dictator is trying to destroy the Ukrainian people. But the world is no longer closed, and we are not in pity the attacker,” insisted Kuleba.
The Foreign Minister mentioned that in the last eight months, Germany made some truly revolutionary decisions: the supply of weapons, the cutting of political, economic and energy relations with Russia. He noted that nowadays the whole world can see how cynical the Moscow machine of lies and propaganda is, so there is no point in refuting the old lie about “normal hunger.”
Kuleba noted that now there are voices again calling for a dialogue with Putin. He also added that the attacker must be stopped, disarmed and expelled before sitting with him at the negotiating table.
“The Bundestag’s recognition of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people will be one such decision: it will restore justice for millions of people and establish the truth about the crimes of Stalin and the Soviet regime. The truth that was tried them to hide for decades. The fact that the descendants of those responsible for this genocide still do not want to be recognized “, summed up the Foreign Minister.
It will be remembered, the adviser of the mayor of Mariupol, Petr Andryushchenko, said that the Russians demolished a monument to the victims of the Holodomor in the occupied city.
