Illegal missile launches pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, G7 foreign ministers said, calling on the UN to respond decisively.
G-7 foreign ministers called on the UN Security Council to take “strong measures” in response to North Korea’s latest ICBM launch. On Sunday, November 20, Reuters reported on the G7 foreign ministers’ statement.
“The unprecedented series of illegal ballistic missile launches by (North Korea) in 2022 poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security,” the statement said.
The G7 also noted that Pyongyang’s test of a ballistic missile capable of reaching the US mainland was a “reckless act” and “another grave violation” of UN resolutions.
The Security Council is scheduled to discuss North Korea’s policy at a meeting on Monday at the request of the United States following the latest round of ongoing missile test launches.
It will be recalled that on Friday, November 18, North Korea launched the Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile, which can carry multiple warheads and has a range of up to 15,000 km. This is enough to reach any point on the US mainland.
The US then called for urgent talks with the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
