Ukraine on Friday scored its third major victory since the start of Vladimir Putin’s offensive, which is now in its ninth month. The Russian retreat from Kherson, in the south of the country, follows the Kremlin mastermind’s failure to capture Kiev at the start of the invasion and the recapture of Kharkiv region by Ukrainian forces in September. This new victory allows Ukrainians to maintain a psychological boost and sounds like an insult to the Russian president, whose power emerges from this latest bitter setback a little weaker. In a Russian blitzkrieg in March, Kherson was the only regional capital captured by Moscow since the start of the conflict and the only major city the Russians captured along with Mariupol.
