Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained the head of the customs post Tis of the Transcarpathian customs and his deputy. They systematically took money from road carriers for unimpeded passage of buses at the border, the State Bureau of Investigation reported on Thursday, November 17.
Law enforcement officials recorded the facts of extortion by customs officials of 10.6 thousand euros from one of the businessmen engaged in international transportation of citizens.
The tax is set based on each bus and the amount of goods it carries. Such cooperation and regular payment of tribute allows transport carriers to cross the state border without obstacles and without artificial delays in the process of passing customs formalities.
The amount of bribes of the attackers was calculated taking into account the previously received SMS messages from the carrier about the weight of the goods carried by the passengers and averaged about 500 euros from each bus.
The officials were detained while receiving the next tranche in the amount of 7.5 thousand euros. The issue of informing them of the suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is resolved.
Preliminary qualification: extortion of an official in a responsible position of illegal benefits by prior conspiracy of a group of people (part 3 of article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Detainees are threatened with punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years.
