The power outage caused additional problems for the company, in addition to the loss of stations in the occupied territories.
The Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar has more than a thousand disabled sites (stations) per day due to power outages. This was announced by the company’s president Alexander Komarov on his Facebook page on Monday, November 14.
“To the problem of missing sites in the occupied territories and on the front line, added the problem of mass shutdown of sites due to power outages. As a result, more than a thousand sites do not work for several hours during the day, with the biggest losses of the day. Kyiv suffers more than others, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Poltava and Sumy regions,” he wrote.
In particular, on Monday 13:00, 672 company sites were without food, of which 292 were in Kyiv, almost 100 in Sumy region and about 60-70 in Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Poltava regions. Also, 427 stations did not work, including 234 – in Kyiv, 74 – in Sumy region, 26-30 – in Chernihiv and Poltava.
“Most of the end base stations can work autonomously for several hours, because they are equipped with batteries. It is a large unit consisting of a set of batteries that can support a site that consumes from at 6 kWh. At the same time, the batteries also need to be charged – from 24 to 48 hours each,” Komarov explained.
However, with the current shutdown schedule, the batteries physically do not have time to fully recharge. In addition, according to the director of the company, it is impossible to solve the problem 100%, but there are measures that should “improve the situation.”
“The situation will be helped by improving the connection of base stations to a more priority power supply, the purchase of more generators and an increase in the number of “field” technical teams, the purchase of new sets of lithium batteries, which have a large capacity and a fast recharge cycle,” he said.
It should be noted that Ukrenergo predicted the timing of improvement in the situation with energy supply, but subject to the absence of new shelling.
