Law enforcement officials detained a woman suspected of organizing a terrorist attack. He allegedly left a package with explosives on Istiklal Street.
Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay told reporters that the attack on the pedestrian street Istiklal in Istanbul was carried out by a woman. This was reported by Habertürk.
“The attacker was a woman who detonated the bomb. As a result of the explosion, six people died. The number of injured rose to 81, the condition of two of them is assessed as serious,” he said.
Oktay added that Turkish authorities are treating the incident as a terrorist attack. CCTV footage is being reviewed and witnesses are being interviewed.
The Turkish Vice President emphasized that all those involved in the explosion will be held accountable.
Turkish TV channel ODA TV showed a photo of a woman suspected of being involved in the blast. The photo shows a woman wearing a black hijab, dark dress and khaki pants. According to the TV channel, he could have left a package with a bomb on Istiklal Street.
Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag announced that Istanbul’s chief prosecutor’s office has assigned eight prosecutors and two deputy chief prosecutors to investigate the bombing.
