On Friday, November 11, NABU and SAPO reported the suspicion to the senior investigator of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, located in Mykolaiv. The investigation found that in March 2022, at one of the checkpoints in the Odessa region, 716 thousand dollars were found from one citizen. USA, which he tried to illegally bring to the EU, hides this fact from customs officials. This was reported by the press service of NABU.
When the customs officials were compiling a protocol on violation of the rules, which provides for unquestionable withdrawal of funds, a senior SBI investigator arrived at the checkpoint. He interfered in the process and, without any legal grounds, withdrew 716 thousand dollars. USA. Subsequently, he illegally returned the confiscated money to the citizen, who became the subject of an administrative offense case and was at the disposal of the customs authorities.
At the end of July, the court found the citizen guilty of violating customary rules under Part 1 of Art. 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, and imposed a fine of almost UAH 21 million with confiscation of the seized 716 thousand dollars to the state. USA. This decision was subsequently affirmed on appeal.
However, to fulfill the court’s decision on the return of 716 thousand dollars in income. became impossible, because the seized money had been returned to the people.
National Bureau detectives began investigating these facts according to their own developments.
