Asian countries already play an important role in global politics, economics, trade, and technological competition. This influence will only grow in the future.
A proactive policy in the Global South opens up hidden opportunities for Ukraine, brings it closer to victory in a full-scale war and strengthens the military economy. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba wrote this on Wednesday, November 9, in an op-ed for RBC-Ukraine, explaining the purpose of his trip to Cambodia.
He mentioned that one of the objectives of the Foreign Minister’s visit to Cambodia is to participate in the ASEAN Summit of Southeast Asian countries, which includes 10 countries: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Cambodia leads ASEAN this year.
“For this visit, we have developed a substantive and very rich agenda, the main priority of which is the development of specific projects with ambitious players in Southeast Asia,” Kuleba wrote.
An important purpose of the visit, the head of the Foreign Ministry called the change in the position of ASEAN countries, some of which adhere to conditional “neutrality” in relation to Russia.
He emphasized that Asia has a unique strategic importance for Ukraine.
“Strengthening cooperation with African and ASEAN states are our hidden opportunities that will help strengthen Ukraine’s position in the international arena,” said Kuleba.
He explained that Asian countries already have an important role in global politics, economy, trade, technological competition and their influence will only grow in the future.
About 660 million people live in ASEAN countries, and the combined GDP of ASEAN countries is $3.2 trillion, it is the fifth largest economy in the world with an average annual growth rate of 4.5%.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian diplomatic department described the relationship between Ukraine and Hungary.
