Now 114 out of 200 Finnish deputies are in favor. So far, only 11 people are against joining NATO in parliament.
In Finland, more than half of parliament members support the country’s entry into NATO. This was announced yesterday by national broadcaster Yle.
It is indicated that now 114 representatives out of 200 are in favor. This is the lowest number, as many representatives have not yet expressed their position on this issue. Opponents of joining NATO in parliament so far are only 11 people.
According to the publication, when all the representatives expressed their position, then 166 people were in favor of membership in the Alliance. At the same time, it remains unclear whether the decision to join NATO requires the support of a simple majority or two-thirds of the representatives.
Remember that Finland will be applying for NATO membership in the coming weeks. This could happen in conjunction with Sweden’s application.
Earlier, NATO Secretary -General Jens Stoltenberg said Finland and Sweden could rely on Alliance membership under an accelerated procedure.
