The Ukrainian government delegation held a meeting in Washington with the head of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Saturday, April 23.
“The International Monetary Fund was one of the first to provide Ukraine with significant financial support amounting to $ 1.4 billion after the start of a full -scale Russian invasion. I personally thanked IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva for this at our meeting in Washington, “he wrote on social networks.
During the meeting, the issues of additional assistance to Ukraine from the Fund in the short term and the issue of long -term restoration of Ukraine were discussed.
“We greatly appreciate the decision to create a special account under the supervision of the IMF to provide additional assistance to Ukraine from the member states of the Fund on a bilateral basis,” Shmyhal said.
He separately thanked for the position of the IMF regarding the fact that assistance to Ukraine to finance the budget deficit should be primary grants, not loans.
Recall, the IMF recently announced that it would help Ukraine cover a financial deficit of $ 15 billion over the next three months.
