The 230m historic bridge was built during the British rule in the 19th century. It was closed for renovations for six months and reopened to visitors last week.

Morbi is one of the largest ceramic manufacturing clusters in the world, accounting for more than 80% of India’s ceramic production.

The incident comes ahead of elections in Gujarat before the end of the year, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party ending in February 2023.
