Western analysts believe that the Kremlin leader hopes to counter radical security forces with the help of the head of the defense ministry.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to restore the authority of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to balance the growing influence of a so-called radical group of security officials who criticize the Russian Defense Ministry. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported this in a report.
According to the institute’s experts, they include people from Putin’s inner circle who have their own combat units in Ukraine. We are talking about the leader of the PKK Wagner Yevgeny Prigogine and the leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.
Analysts believe that Putin may announce the end of the mobilization personally, and not at a meeting with Shoigu, or instruct the head of the defense ministry to complete the unsuccessful mobilization himself.
However, the staged public meeting is consistent with the recent increase in the appearance of Shoigu in the media, experts have drawn attention.
According to them, Shoigu had several phone conversations with his Turkish, Chinese and Western counterparts. At the same time, the security forces, despite their prominence in the Russian information space, do not have the same rank or authority, experts say.
They also recalled that Shoigu rarely appeared in public in the spring and summer. The presence of the head of the defense ministry in the information space depends on the Kremlin’s approval, since Putin can control when Shoigu speaks in public.
At the same time, Shoigu’s rivals from the security forces control their own Telegram channels and communicate with the media.
It should be noted that Shoigu shared his version of the so-called “dirty bomb” with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe.
