“From October 14, 2022, Russian inspectors at the Istanbul Joint Coordination Center have significantly extended the inspection of ships that come to Ukrainian ports for grain cargo or are already loaded and on their way to their final destination. As a result, more than 165 ships are stuck in line in the Bosphorus, and that number continues to increase every day,” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that there is reason to believe that delays in Russia’s verification of grain initiative ships are politically motivated.

“Recently, the Russian leadership tried, without any legal basis, to question the grain corridor, demanding new benefits for Moscow’s agreement to continue the deal,” the ministry recalled.

They stress that Russia’s actions undermine global food security. It was noted that inspection delays prevented Ukraine from exporting an additional 3 million tons of grain, and 10 million people around the world did not receive food on time because of.

“We call on the international community, especially the African and Asian states that rely on grain exports from Ukraine, to demand that Russia immediately stop these artificial delays in inspecting ships of the grain corridor. We must not allow the Kremlin to hold millions of people hostage. in its hunger games,” – said the Foreign Ministry.

Ukraine also turned to the Secretariat of the Joint Coordination Center with a request to immediately remove the delays from the Russian Federation, including increasing the number of inspectors in the Bosphorus.

“We remain committed to further close cooperation with the UN and Turkey to ensure the smooth functioning of the Black Sea Grain Corridor,” the ministry assured.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, due to the creation of the Russian queue, Ukrainian ports are now operating at only 25-30% of their capacity.
