The former head of the British government will not take part in the struggle for the leadership of the Conservative Party and the position of prime minister.
Boris Johnson has announced that he will not run for the Conservative Leadership and British Prime Minister. It was reported by the British edition of Sky News on Sunday, October 23.
Note that the former head of the British government received the support of 59 members of parliament from the Tories.
The media said that according to Johnson, he “passed the very high threshold of 102” MPs, but decided that “it was not the right time”.
Continuation of the race for the prime minister’s seat is possible only by gathering 100 votes of conservative representatives.
For now, former finance minister Rishi Sunak remains the favorite in the race. He led the Tory MP with 144 supporters.
We added that on Monday, October 24, two favorites will be determined by voting among the deputies.
From 25 to 28 October, online voting will take place among 170,000 Conservative Party members across the UK. The results of this vote will determine who will be the country’s new prime minister.
As you know, the media previously reported that Johnson on Saturday, October 22, returned to London from vacation.
