Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Sunday, October 23, spoke by phone with colleagues from France, Turkey, the US and the UK. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Shoigu complained to all ministers that Ukraine was allegedly preparing a provocation with a “dirty bomb”.
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said Britain was ready to help Russia and Ukraine find a peaceful solution to the military conflict without further escalation, the British government said.
Shoigu and told Wallace that Ukraine, with the help of the UK, allegedly planned to escalate the conflict. However, Wallace denied the allegations and warned that such statements should not be used as a reason for further increases.
“The Defense Secretary has reaffirmed that the UK and the wider international community support Ukraine and desire a de-escalation of this conflict. Ukraine and Russia must find a way out of war, and the UK is ready to help,” the message said.
The French Ministry of the Armed Forces reported that Sebastien Lecornu heard from Shoigu an allegation about the alleged possible “Ukrainian strike with a” dirty bomb “on their own territory to blame Russia.”
In response, Paris rejected “any form of escalation, including nuclear” and expressed its readiness to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict with allies.
The Turkish Defense Ministry said Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and Shoigu “exchanged information and views on the need to be cautious and vigilant against provocations that could worsen the security situation in the region.”
“As our president has repeatedly said, it has been reiterated that Turkey, for its part, is ready to contribute to achieving a truce in the region, guarantee peace and continue stable humanitarian supplies aid,” said Akar.
The previous day, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that if the Russian Federation were to launch a nuclear strike on the President’s Office in Kyiv, the world should respond with a blow to the center of decision-making in Russia itself.
