The “Pearl of the Nuclear Triad”, located in the Persian Gulf, was visited by CENTCOM commander Michael Kurilla.
On Wednesday, October 19, the US military made an unusual announcement about the presence of one of its ballistic missile submarines in the Persian Gulf. This was reported by the NBC channel with reference to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
It was noted that the US military released photos showing CENTCOM commander General Michael Kurilla aboard the USS West Virginia, as well as a statement indicating the ship’s location.
“The US military rarely, if ever, reveals where its ballistic missile submarines are operating, especially when they are stationed near enemy shores,” NBC said.
According to the channel, Kurilla’s visit will be seen as a signal to US adversaries in the region, including Iran, about Washington’s capabilities.
The spokesman/Pentagon emphasized that the command was not a response to any recent event or provocation, but rather a signal after months of rising tensions, including attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria.
The visit also took place against the backdrop of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons on Ukraine and the involvement of Iran, which supplies drones to the Russian army, in the war.
It was previously reported that Washington is ready to apply sanctions against Tehran for the supply of kamikaze drones to Russia.
