Britain imposed new sanctions against Iran for the supply of kamikaze drones to Russia.
The aggressor country of Russia is attacking civilian facilities and critical infrastructure in Ukraine with these drones, and Iran is thus profiting from inciting war and violating the UN Security Council resolution that controls the transfer of these weapons. This is stated in a statement by the British government.
The head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, fell under the sanctions. It was he who oversaw the supply of kamikaze drones to the Russians. The restrictions also apply to the key negotiator in the agreement on the supply of drones, Brigadier General Seyyed Hojatollah Kureishi.
Also on the sanctions list are Shahed drone maker Shahed Aviation Industries and the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Said Aghajani. It is the representatives of the IRGC who are in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said these top officials and Shaheed maker had inflicted untold suffering on Ukrainians.
We will make sure that they are held accountable for their actions,” the minister stressed.
Earlier, the European Union imposed sanctions against Iran for the transfer of drones to the Russian army.
Recall, Reuters reported that on October 6, Iran and Russia entered into an agreement to transfer short- and medium-range ballistic missiles and additional drones to Moscow.
