The task of stopping the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian army in the direction of Kherson is a priority for the Russian invaders, said Oleksiy Gromov, Deputy Head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Intelligence data indicates that in the short term, task No. 1 for the armed forces of the Russian Federation is to hold the front and stop the Ukrainian offensive in the direction of Kherson. The enemy plans to solve this task primarily by first wave of partial mobilization and by increasing the number of groups of the Russian armed forces on the right bank of the Dnieper River,” said Gromov.
According to him, now the enemy has concentrated up to 45 battalion tactical groups, accelerating the fortification equipment of the defensive lines, to stop the advance of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the South Bug operational area. At the same time, the enemy continues to try to restore the crossings of the Dnieper River to provide support for his troops.
Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to strike at the concentration of enemy personnel and equipment. Crossings, warehouses are destroyed, and enemy logistical support routes are kept under fire control.
“For the Putin regime, the southern direction – Kherson, Zaporozhye and Nikolaev – has strategic importance in terms of maintaining the land corridor in Crimea and the water supply of the peninsula,” explained the representative of the General Staff.
In addition, the Russian Federation still hopes to use the region as a springboard to acquire the Mykolaiv and Odessa regions.
Threat from Belarus
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine believes that the threat of a second offensive from the territory of Belarus is growing, but the direction of the offensive can be changed to the west of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
“The threat of the Russian Armed Forces to continue the offensive on the northern front is growing. This time, the direction of the offensive can be changed to the west of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border in order to cut off the main logistical arteries of the delivery of weapons and equipment military in Ukraine from partner countries,” Gromov said.
The representative of the General Staff noted that steps are being taken to deploy aviation and other units of the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of Belarus.

According to Gromov, there are MiG-31 aircraft at the airports of the Republic of Belarus, which may be armed with Kinzhal-type cruise missiles.
