A spokesman for the Vperyod.Italy party denied that Silvio Berlusconi had spoken to Putin again.
Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says he has reconnected with Russian President Vladimir Putin and recently exchanged “good letters” with him. LaPresse writes about it.
“I renewed contacts with Putin a little, quite a lot, in the sense that on my birthday (September 29 – ed.) he sent me 20 bottles of vodka and a very nice letter. I answered him with several bottles of Lambrusco and the same beautiful letter. I was one of his first real friends,” Berlusconi told his party’s representatives in the lower house of parliament.
Berlusconi also said that Russian officials have repeatedly said that the West is at war with Russia “because we give weapons and funds to Ukraine.”
According to him, he is very worried about the situation in Ukraine, but he cannot express his honest opinion, because “if it gets to the press, it will be a disaster.”
However, the representative of the party Forward. Italy countered that Berlusconi was talking to Putin again, saying he was telling his parliamentarians “an old story about an episode from many years ago,” Reuters wrote.
The party later issued a statement saying Berlusconi and the party’s position on the war “matches the position of Europe and the United States” and “there is no room for ambiguity.”
It will be remembered that Berlusconi said that he was very disappointed and saddened by the behavior of Russian President Putin because of the invasion of Ukraine.
Later, Berlusconi told his version of the motives of the Kremlin leader on the issue of war: he was allegedly “forced” to do it.
