The Russians have asked for more drones and Iranian ballistic missiles with improved accuracy, an Iranian diplomat said.
Iran has promised to provide Russia with surface-to-surface missiles in addition to more drones. Reuters wrote this, citing the words of two senior Iranian officials and two Iranian diplomats.
On October 6, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, two senior officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and an official from the Supreme National Security Council reportedly visited Moscow to negotiate with Russia on arms supplies.
“The Russians have requested more drones and Iranian ballistic missiles with improved accuracy, especially the Fateh and Zolfaghar family of missiles,” an Iranian diplomat said.
A Western official confirmed this, saying there is an agreement between Iran and Russia to provide short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, including the Zolfaghar.
Iranian diplomats dismissed claims by Western officials that such shipments violated a 2015 UN Security Council resolution.
“Where they are used is not the question of the seller. We do not take sides in the Ukrainian crisis, like the West. We want to end the crisis through diplomatic means,” assured the diplomat.
It was noted that the appearance of Iranian missiles in addition to drones in the arsenal of the Russian Federation will increase the tension between Iran and the United States and other Western states.
The US State Department noted that Iranian drones were used in Monday morning’s attack on Kyiv, and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also accused Tehran of lying when it said the Iranian drones are not used by Russia in Ukraine.
When asked about the sale of Iranian surface-to-surface missiles to Russia, a senior US military official said he could not yet provide proof of the accuracy of this information.
Remember, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba initiated a break in diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Iran. He noted that Ukraine has never taken an anti-Iranian position before, but after Iran became a participant in the crime of aggression, further relations are impossible.
