Several banks in Kyrgyzstan have stopped servicing Russian bank cards of the Mir payment system after similar measures by Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This was reported on Tuesday, October 18, by the Kyrgyz service of Radio Liberty.
In particular, banks such as Companion, Dos Credo Bank and Bakai Bank stopped serving Russian bank cards Mir. On the banks’ websites, it was noted that this happened for “technical reasons.” There is no information about service restoration.
After sanctions were imposed on Russian banks, and international payment systems left the Russian market, Russians are trying to avoid sanctions and go for bank cards in other countries. Among the popular destinations of “card tourism” are the countries of Central Asia – Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Recall that in September, following Turkey, the banks of Armenia, Vietnam and Kazakhstan refused to deliver Russian Mir cards.
Before that, in Turkey, two out of five banks that accept Russian Mir payment cards have had their work suspended. The institutions took this step after the US and Britain announced that they are fighting anyone who helps Russia evade sanctions.
