The Russians can only start riots when the death toll is measured in the hundreds of thousands. Disaffected political elites will also oppose Putin.
Popular unrest in the Russian Federation will begin when the number of those killed in the war will not be tens, but hundreds of thousands. Only then can representatives of the ruling elite come out against Russian President Vladimir Putin. Andrey Chernyak, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, spoke about this in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine.
“Now any coup in Russia is impossible. The system there is built in such a way that the people in power are interested in maintaining the status quo. They have their own state, their own worldview. There are conscious people among them who understand the current criticality of the situation in Russia. But they will never be speakers of any changes. Those who have different opinions will be destroyed or they are too afraid to take any violent action,” said Chernyak.

However, according to him, there is a possibility that a street will rise in Russia.
” This will happen when the number of dead in the war will not be tens, but hundreds of thousands. People are still zombies by propaganda and terrorized by the security forces. Everyone understands that all decisions are just made by one person. People can live in poverty, but they still won’t fight against his king. But when there are hundreds of thousands of corpses, the situation is different,” he added.
As Chernyak noted, people in Russia who work closely with the military intelligence of Ukraine – “they are aware, enough and understand that their country will fall.”
But at the same time, they can’t bring themselves to start something like an internal riot. They are waiting in the street. When the street rises, representatives of the ruling elite will join the riots. There are people in all structures, in every ministry who are ready to join this process,” believes the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
According to him, when their “ship” really sinks, many will reject Putin.
Recall, according to the latest data from the General Staff, since the beginning of the war, the loss of personnel of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine has approximately reached 65,320 people.
