Germany should help Ukraine where possible, “because these weapons save human lives,” said the co-chairman of the Soyuz-90/Greens party.
Representatives of the Soyuz-90 / Greens party, which is part of the ruling coalition in Germany, emphasized the need to increase arms supplies to Ukraine. The statement, adopted on the second day of the party’s congress in Bonn on Saturday, October 15, said Russia’s war of aggression shows “how important it is to have adequate civil and military defense capacity.”
“Therefore, we provide weapons to Ukraine and want to continue to do so more actively, if necessary, also from the stocks of the Bundeswehr and industry,” the AFP agency quoted excerpts from the document.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock defended the government’s path towards Ukraine and called for unity.
“Let’s show together that we are stronger in this war,” she said during her speech at the congress. Union 90/Greens co-chairman Omid Nuripur said Germany should help where it can “because these weapons save lives.”
At the same time, the Greens do not intend to abandon their “deepest convictions as a party of peace.” While military resources are “inevitable because of the threat to Ukraine, for a long time we advocate in the spirit of a feminist foreign policy for the principles of disarmament and demilitarization, as well as for the priority of civilians,” said statement.
“We must increase our efforts to strengthen initiatives in the field of nuclear disarmament and arms control, especially in these troubled times,” the document said.
The question of the fate of nuclear power plants in Germany
