The shoes for the dancers were only bought abroad, and now it’s time to buy new batches of pointe shoes, and it’s impossible.
The Director General of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia, Vladimir Urin, said that due to the sanctions against the Russian Federation, the ballerinas will not be able to get new pointe shoes. This was reported by the portal News.ru.
According to him, the shoes for the dancers were only bought abroad, and now the time has come to buy new batches of pointe shoes, and this is impossible.
At an extended meeting in the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the issues of cultural import substitution, Urin said that the institution under his control could not yet refuse foreign goods, because Russia had not established production of high-quality ballet shoes, and it is impossible to arrange import substitution in one year.
“Now we are immersed in the procedure for each item. We send these applications to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and as a result, the process takes a long time. For example, they send a request for permission to buy a batch of famous ballet shoes, because there are no high-quality ballet shoes in Russia, we do not produce. Three months after sending the request, we were rejected. We could not buy shoes needed for the theater, the ballerinas were left without shoes,” Urina quoted the portal.
It was also reported that earlier the Bolshoi Theater canceled the premiere of two operas directed by Alexander Molochnikov for the new season due to the fact that Molochnikov openly condemned the so-called “special operation” in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the EU is working on new sanctions for Russia.
