The head of the OP urged the new head of the ICRC to do everything possible to send a Red Cross mission to the colony in Yelenovka.
The new president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Egger, stated that it is a priority for ICRC staff to gain access to Ukrainian prisoners of war, especially in Yelenovka, Donetsk region. He said this in a conversation with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, the press service of the president reports.
Yermak emphasized that the world has not seen such a situation in human rights violations, as it is in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, for many decades. In particular, this also applies to the treatment of Ukrainian military and civilian prisoners.
Yermak urged Egger to do everything possible to send a Red Cross mission to the Yelenovka colony, where more than 50 Ukrainian defenders were killed in a terrorist attack in late July.
According to Yermak, on October 17, representatives of the Red Cross should arrive at the demarcation line in eastern Ukraine, which will be a very important step for the ICRC.
Mirjana Egger said she would do anything to gain access to the prisoners.
“This is my priority. And we will ask for access,” the head of the ICRC stressed.
It was previously reported that the UN requested that the Russian Federation access the Red Cross to prisoners of war.
