ISW assessed the consequences of the explosion on the Crimean bridge

After the explosion on the bridge, Russian nationalists began to criticize Putin, the Kremlin trying to shift the blame to the military, analysts said.

The Kremlin is trying to shift the blame for the Crimean bridge blast to the Russian Defense Ministry to deflect criticism from President Vladimir Putin. This conclusion was made by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense has no official statement on this matter.

Meduza reports that the Putin administration has sent instructions to Russian media on how to minimize damage to the bridge. It is possible that the Kremlin has instructed the Russian Defense Ministry to remain silent about this situation.

Some nationalists from the Russian Federation said that Putin and his entourage failed to immediately respond to the attack on the “symbolic” bridge, expressing direct criticism of the Russian president for the first time.

One of the military bloggers warned that if Putin does not retaliate, “it will be mistaken for the president’s own weakness.”

Propagandists urged the Kremlin to continue strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure. At the same time, there were no statements about the use of nuclear weapons in response.

ISW said the collapse of a strip of the Crimean Bridge would restrict Russian military movement until the bridge is repaired, forcing some Russian forces to rely on the ferry service for some time.

At the same time, the invaders would probably still be able to transport heavy military equipment by train.

Recall that the day before at about six in the morning a truck exploded on the Crimean bridge, after which the fuel tanks caught fire. Traffic here was suspended due to the damage, but in the evening it was restored to a limited extent.

As Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President, said, the Russians themselves may have organized the bombing of the Crimean bridge. He explained this as the result of the confrontation between the FSB and the military.
