For the first time since the beginning of the war, the Ukrainian occupation group has a commander, and it is General Sergei Surovikin.
Russian Army General Sergei Surovikin has been officially appointed commander of Russian troops in Ukraine. This was stated in the Russian Ministry of Defense on Saturday, October 8.
According to Russian media, Vladimir Putin personally called General Surovikin on his anniversary and appointed him commander.
It should be noted that for the first time since the beginning of the war, the group of Russian troops in Ukraine has a commander.
At the end of June 2022, Surovikin became the commander of the southern grouping of Russian troops in Ukraine. He led the offensive in the Golden and Gorsky Luhansk region. Before Ukraine, Surovikin was the commander of the Russian group in Syria, then in 2017 Putin appointed him the head of the Aerospace Forces.
The other day, a new head of the Eastern Military District was appointed in the Russian Federation. The new commander had previously distinguished himself in Chechnya and Syria, and also commanded Russian troops in the occupied Donbas.
Recall that this week a new commander of the Western Military District of the Russian Federation was also appointed. They became Roman Berdnikov – graduated from the Kyiv Suvorov Military School in 1991.
