Washington takes the Russian leadership’s statements seriously, the US defense department said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet made a decision on the use of nuclear weapons. This is what US Department of Defense spokesperson Pat Ryder said in a briefing.

According to him, Washington does not have any information that could cause a change in the “position of strategic deterrence.”

“We don’t believe that President Putin has decided to use nuclear weapons at this moment. But again, we take this very seriously. We will monitor the situation, but in the meantime, our focus is on supporting Ukraine,” Ryder said.

Recall that on the eve of US President Joe Biden warned about the danger associated with nuclear threats to the Russian Federation. According to him, for the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, there was a direct threat of using nuclear weapons.
