Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has expressed its support for Japan’s position regarding its northern outskirts. On Friday, October 7, Ukrainian deputies adopted a draft resolution recognizing the Kuril Islands as territory occupied by Russia.
287 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada voted for the adoption of the relevant resolution.
“Ukraine reaffirms its respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Japan, including its northern territories, which are still under Russian occupation. Today, I signed a corresponding decree. There is a statement from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. And we urge everyone in the world to make such decisions,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his video message.
The head of state also noted that through the war against Ukraine and against the international legal order, Russia has put itself in conditions where it is only a matter of time – the real liberation of everything that was captured and under control. of the Kremlin.
“The aggressor must be defeated. So it will be. So that these kinds of wars don’t happen again and the peace is really long-term. Nothing should remain an invader. I believe that justice will be restored for our partners,” Zelensky said.
It will be remembered that Japan for the first time in 19 years called the Kuril Islands illegally occupied by Russia.
