The Alliance says they are prepared for any development of the situation and they are ready to act quickly and harshly.
NATO has said it has prepared response options should Russia use nuclear weapons against Ukraine, and is ready to act quickly and harshly. German General Chris Badia, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation, said this in a discussion at the Warsaw Security Forum, Ukrinform reports.
According to Badia, NATO takes Russia’s threats with nuclear weapons very seriously.
“President Putin said that he is absolutely serious (by threatening to use nuclear weapons – ed.), and we are really serious about the readiness to respond quickly and harshly,” said Badia.
He noted that the Alliance continues to monitor the activity of the Russians on the issue of nuclear weapons and provides advice to the bloc’s political leadership and individual member states on possible response situations.
“I can assure you that the member countries of the Alliance are ready for any development of the situation. All response options are on the table,” said Badia, adding that now it is impossible to imagine that the threat of nuclear will become a reality.
It will be recalled that on September 21, in his video message to the Russian people, Putin said that all means of destruction, including nuclear, would be used in the event of a threat to Russia’s territorial integrity and that “it is not a bluff.”
Later, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg threatened the Russian Federation with consequences for using nuclear weapons.
