The statement emphasizes that the Council of Europe will never recognize either illegal “referendums” or their false and illegal results.

Members of the European Council declared their unconditional condemnation of Russia’s illegal annexation of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The corresponding statement is published on the website of the Council of Europe.

“We strongly reject and unequivocally condemn Russia’s illegal annexation of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. By deliberately undermining the rules-based international order and blatantly violating the fundamental rights of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the basic principles stated in the UN Charter and international law, Russia is a threat to international security,” the statement said.

The statement emphasizes that the Council of Europe will never recognize either illegal “referendums” or their false and illegal results.

“We will never recognize this illegal annexation. These decisions are invalid and cannot have any legal force. Crimea, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Donetsk and Lugansk are Ukraine. We call on all states and international organization to unconditionally abandon this illegal merger” , – noted in the statement.

It is emphasized that the European Union fully supports Ukraine and its people.

“We are unwavering in our support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to be protected from Russian aggression to regain full control over its territory and has the right to liberate the occupied territories within internationally recognized borders,” said EU representatives.

The nuclear threats from the Kremlin, as mentioned in the statement, will not withstand the resolution of the EU countries.

“We will increase our restrictive measures in response to Russia’s illegal actions. They will increase the pressure on Russia to stop its war of aggression. We reiterate that the European Union fully supports Ukraine and will continue to provide of strong economic, military, social and financial support to Ukraine as long as necessary,” the statement said.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who commented on Putin’s statement, also emphasizedthat the territories illegally occupied by Russia and declared annexed remain Ukrainian.

“The illegal annexation declared by Putin will not change anything. All territories illegally occupied by the Russian invaders are the land of Ukraine and will always be part of this sovereign state,” von der Leyen wrote.

It will be remembered that today, September 30, Putin announced the annexation of part of Ukraine.
