Fulfilling the conditions necessary for joining the EU is more important than any deadline, the European Commissioner believes.
At the moment, it is too early to talk about the time of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, it is necessary to focus on reforms. This was announced on Wednesday, September 28, by the European Commissioner for Negotiations on Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Oliver Vargei during a visit to Kyiv.

“Now it is important to focus on all those steps leading to Ukraine’s membership in the European Union… Therefore, it is quite early to talk about the dates. The most important thing is how and when the reforms will be implemented. It can happen before 2024, or after 2024, it is not so important. The most important thing is that Ukraine has completed all the steps,” he said.
The Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanyshina agreed with the opinion of the European Commissioner. He emphasized that the authorities will ensure that Ukraine is ready to join the European Union at some date.
“We are confident in the most ambitious timeline we can imagine as we step by step build our readiness for it as we prepare for the decision on candidate status,” he said.
Earlier, Stefanyshina said that Ukraine-EU membership talks could start at the end of 2023.
