Pseudo-referendums are contrary to international norms and principles of international humanitarian law.
The pseudo-referendums held by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine are considered illegal by the OSCE because they contradict international norms. The Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Matteo Mecacci, said this in Warsaw, Ukrinform reports.
“ODIHR does not observe these ‘referendums’. I say clearly that the decisions to hold them are contrary to international norms and the principles of international humanitarian law. Therefore, they are against law,” Mecacci said at the opening of the two-week OSCE conference on implementing measures to respect human rights.
Recall, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the “referendum” in Ukraine a fiction. According to him, the States will never recognize the annexation of the regions of Ukraine.
Earlier, the media wrote that bills on the accession of occupied territories to the Russian Federation could be submitted to the State Duma on the evening of September 28, and on September 30, Putin could deliver a message to the Federal Assembly.
