Ships and barges were observed in the submarine launch berth area on September 18. This was captured by satellite images.
North Korea is preparing to launch a new submarine. This was confirmed by satellite images of Sinpo South Shipyard on September 18, released at 38 north.
The photos show six barges and ships gathered at the pier of the construction shop.
It was noted that analysts first noticed signs that at least one new submarine was being built in 2016, and in 2019 state media showed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspecting a previously unreported submarine built under “his special attention” and which operated in the waters off the east coast.
At the time, state media did not describe the submarine’s weapons systems or report where and when the inspection took place. However, analysts said the apparent size of the new vessel indicated it was designed to carry missiles.
As you know, North Korea has a large submarine fleet, but only one experimental submarine is capable of carrying a ballistic missile. North Korea conducted a test launch of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) in May near Sinpo.
North Korea stores submarines there, as well as submarine-launched ballistic missile test equipment.
It was previously reported that the DPRK conducted a test launch of two cruise missiles in the direction of the Yellow Sea in August.
Recall that North Korea passed a law allowing it to deliver a preventive nuclear strike against the enemy “in the event of threats.”
