A bus transporting people to a quarantine facility crashed. It was not without scandal.
A bus overturned in China’s southwestern Guizhou province. As a result of the accident, 27 people died and 20 were injured, according to Xinhua on Monday, September 19.
It was indicated that the accident happened the previous morning on a highway in Sandu-Shui Autonomous Region. The exact cause of the accident was not reported.
In this regard, the Air Force clarified that a bus transporting people to a quarantine facility crashed. It was not without scandal.
According to Chinese regulations, passenger buses are prohibited from driving on the highway between 02:00 and 05:00. However, the accident occurred at 02:40 local time after the bus left for the quarantine facility after midnight, which could indicate a violation of rules.
The accident sparked online outrage from critics of China’s “zero COVID-19” policy, as only two people have died from the disease in Guizhou province since the pandemic began, while the road accident claimed the lives of almost 14 times more life.
However, the province has recently seen an increase in COVID-19 infections. Guizhou reported 712 new cases on Saturday, about 70% of China’s total.
