Another country closed ports for Russian ships

Estonia has banned Russian ships from entering its ports. The ban took effect on Sunday.

The Estonian government has banned from Sunday, April 17, Russian ships from entering their ports. This was reported by ERR.

The Ministry of Economy and Communications said that for ships that changed their flag from Russian to another flag after February 24, European Union ports are now also closed.

“The Kremlin is showing no signs of ending its aggression, so Europe is gradually looking for strategic ways to make the cost of the war high in order to eliminate the possibility of an ongoing military offensive against Ukraine. Russia needs to rethink their activities to cope with the new economic space, ”said Taavi Aas, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications.

However, in exceptional cases, Russian ships in distress can call Estonian ports. In doing so, they must obtain permission from the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, which will determine in advance the need for assistance.
