The country’s foreign ministry criticized the former leader for promoting Russian narratives.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry condemned the statements of its former leader, Andrei Marga, that Ukraine should cede its territory to Romania, Russia, Hungary and Poland. The department considers the former minister’s statements unacceptable, wrote the Romanian edition of Libertatea on September 18.
The Foreign Ministry said that Marga’s words contradict Romania’s official position regarding Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, as well as the basic principles of international law.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry criticized Marga for promoting Russian narratives and cited “strong support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders.”
Earlier, Margi, at the presentation of his book, said that Ukraine’s borders are “unnatural”, and part of the country’s territories belong to other states. He added that Ukraine should surrender the territories: Hungary – Transcarpathia, Poland – Galicia, Romania – Bukovina, Russia – Donbass and Crimea.
It will be recalled that on August 19, an employee of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest was declared persona non grata in Romania.
