The Stavros vessel transported coal from the Russian Taman terminal to the port of the Turkish city of Iskenderun.
A Greek company ship delivered coal from a Russian port at the end of last month following the entry into force of European Union sanctions on coal from Russia. Bloomberg reported this.
On August 29, the Stavros vessel, owned by the Greek company Eastern Mediterranean Maritime, completed the loading of 53,000 tons of coal from the Russian Taman terminal, according to Kpler and Logistic OS analytical companies.
A company spokesman said the flight was not subject to EU sanctions because the cargo’s destination was outside the EU. At the same time, Bloomberg said that the European Commission had previously said that the sanctions apply to any supplies of coal from Russia, regardless of their destination.
The ban on coal, both purchase and transport, regardless of its final destination, the EU executive body said. Sanctions also apply to the financing and insurance of EU companies, regardless of the origin of the company collecting the goods.
It will be recalled that on September 15, the EU extended sanctions against 1,206 Russians and 108 institutions of the Russian Federation for six months.
