Yerevan, referring to Article 4 of the Collective Security Treaty, asked allies to help in the conflict with Azerbaijan.
Armenia appealed to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) with a call to provide military assistance in dealing with Azerbaijan. Armenpress agency reported this on Wednesday, September 14.
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan draws attention to the fourth article of the Collective Security Treaty: aggression against one of the member states is considered aggression against other states.
“We turn to the CSTO for help, including military assistance, to restore the territorial integrity of Armenia and ensure the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from Armenian territory,” the head of government said in his speech to parliament .
He called the meeting of the CSTO meeting on September 13 “a pleasant fact”. According to him, there was a “sincere and open discussion” on the situation developed on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
The fourth article of the Collective Security Treaty Organization assumes: aggression against one of the CSTO member countries means aggression against all.
A country subject to external aggression may turn to the CSTO with a request for assistance, including military assistance, and allied states are obligated to provide such assistance to it.
In addition to Armenia, the CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
Recall that on the night of September 13, the Azerbaijani army began a battle against Armenia. In particular, they carried out intensive shooting of Armenian positions from artillery and large-caliber guns in the direction of Goris, Sotk and Jermuk. Baku accused Yerevan of provocation.
Protests began in Armenia demanding Pashinyan’s resignation
