The emergency summit will give countries a chance to sign EU proposals and bridge differences on the best way to deal with the crisis.
The draft proposals of the European Commission provide for the introduction of a tax on windfall profits of oil, gas, coal and oil refining companies received from a sharp increase in energy prices in the financial year 2022. The fee will be 33% of the excess profits of the companies.
Countries also need to reduce their electricity consumption by 5% during peak electricity prices.
It should be reminded that earlier it was reported that the European network of operators of the ENTSO-E electricity transmission system increased the available capacity for the export of electricity from Ukraine to the EU by another 20% – up to at 300 MW.
