Scholz urged Putin to find a solution based on a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. DW reported this referring to the representative of the German federal government, Steffen Hebeshtreit.
It was noted that the conversation lasted an hour and a half and concerned the situation in Ukraine and its consequences.
Scholz urged Putin to find a diplomatic solution as soon as possible, based on a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
The German Chancellor also told Putin that any further steps by Russia towards annexation would be unanswerable and unrecognizable under any circumstances, and stressed the need to ensure the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
In addition, Scholz noted the important role of the grain agreement and appealed to Putin not to undermine the agreement and continue to implement it.
Recall that on September 7, Scholz spoke by phone with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. They discussed plans to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the war with the Russian Federation.
