The Russian command removed from the Kharkiv region the remnants of the elite 1st Guards Tank Army (1st GTA), intended to defend Moscow in the event of a war with NATO. This is stated in the intelligence data, which on Tuesday, September 13, the British Ministry of Defense published on Twitter.
It was noted that 1 GTA suffered heavy losses in the initial stage of the invasion and was not fully repaired before the counteroffensive of Ukrainian troops in Kharkov.
According to British intelligence, the 1st GTA was one of the most prestigious armies in Russia, it stood for the defense of Moscow and intended to carry out counterattacks in the event of a war with NATO.
“Since 1 GTA and other units of the Western Military District have been severely demoralized, Russia’s conventional forces, designed to counter NATO, have been seriously weakened,” the British Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
They also believe that it will take Russia many years to restore this potential.
