Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Portugal has rejected all 10 applications from Russian citizens for “golden visas”, Publico reported citing the Portuguese Foreigners and Border Guards Service (SEF) on Sunday, September 11.
After the outbreak of war, official Lisbon suspended consideration of applications for “golden visas” from Russian citizens in light of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation. Since the suspension, the Portuguese authorities have received 10 applications, rejecting all of them.
Portugal has issued more than 430 “golden visas” to Russians over 10 years
The program, which has been running since 2012, allows you to get a residence permit (permit) in Portugal in exchange for investments in the amount of 250 thousand euros. Since the beginning of the program, more than 430 golden visas have been issued to Russian citizens, Publico pointed out.
The last time Portugal issued “golden visas” to Russian citizens was in January 2022, according to SEF data. Seven applications were approved. In December 2021, 10 visas were issued, in November – five, in October – eight. In total, 65 Russians received the document in 2021.

Earlier, the European Union reached an agreement to suspend the simplified procedure for issuing visas to Russian citizens, although it was proposed to introduce a complete ban on issuing visas.
