Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Swedish authorities have limited the list of goods that can be taken out of the country, as a result of which customs officials have begun to find stolen cars and parts for them more often.
In the first half of 2022, the number of stolen vehicles in Sweden decreased by more than 5% compared to the same period in 2021. Local customs officials said that the reason may be restrictions imposed due to the full Russian invasion of Ukraine, VK reports.
It was noted that if in the first six months of last year 3152 stolen cars were recorded in Sweden, then for the same period in 2022 – 2984. Of these, 24% have not yet been returned.
According to the deputy head of the customs service of southern Sweden, Oskar Lindval, the reason is the more thorough examination that was introduced in early March in connection with the full invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
Then the Swedish authorities limited the list of goods that could be exported from the country, as a result of which customs officers began to see stolen cars and spare parts for them more often. As a result, the number of cases of theft of auto parts decreased by almost 21%.
Between 70% and 90% of stolen cars are transported abroad by international criminal gangs, according to the Swedish Insurance Association’s Safety Commission.
It was previously reported that Ukraine received a new military aid package from Sweden. In particular, the specific positions expected by Ukraine were named – Archer howitzers, RBS-70 anti-aircraft missile system and more shells for the artillery system.
