In August, consumer price growth in Ukraine accelerated to 1.1% from 0.7% in July. This was announced on Friday, September 9, by the State Statistics Service.
It is known that in August last year, 0.2% deflation was recorded, therefore, in annual terms, in August this year, inflation increased to 23.8% from 22.2% in July and 21.5% in June.
Core inflation jumped more last month, to 2.1% from 1.2% in July, 1.6% in June and 1.4% in May.
Since the beginning of this year, in eight months, inflation in Ukraine reached 19.5%, the State Statistics Service specified.
Analysts assumed the possibility of inflation accelerating in August due to the devaluation of the official hryvnia exchange rate by 25% from July 21, but the National Bank estimated it more modestly in August – at 23%.
It was noted that in the consumer market in July, the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0.8%. Above all (by 8.7%) the price of eggs increased. Prices for processed cereals, rice, pork, oil, fish and fish products, non-alcoholic beverages, bread and butter increased by 5.1-1.1%. At the same time, prices for fruits, beef and vegetables decreased by 5.4-1.9%.
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose 1.3%, inclusive. for tobacco products by 1.8%, alcoholic beverages – by 0.8%.
The price of clothing and footwear fell by 3.5%, including shoes – by 3.8%, clothing – by 3.2%.
Transportation prices decreased by 0.3% due to cheaper fuel and lubricating oil by 4.4%. At the same time, the cost of road passenger transport travel increased by 2.9%.
In the field of communication, prices increased by 2.1%, related to the increase in the cost of mobile communications by 4.1% and postal services by 2.6%.
Recall, the Ministry of Economy reported that in Ukraine, the second month in a row, inflation rates are decreasing. Earlier, the Ministry of Economy assured that it is not worth waiting for hyperinflation in Ukraine, despite the ongoing war.
