New British Prime Minister Liz Truss gave her first speech in office on Tuesday, September 6, commemorating Russia’s war against Ukraine, The Guardian reports.
“We are now facing major global headwinds caused by Russia’s horrific war in Ukraine and the fallout from COVID,” Truss said.
He promised to boost Britain’s economy through tax cuts and a series of reforms.
“I will cut taxes to reward hard work and encourage business-led growth and investment. I will reform as part of my mission to keep the UK working, developing and growing,” he said.
At the same time, Truss said he would work to combat the energy crisis.
“I will discuss the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war. This week I will take action to tackle electricity bills and secure our future energy supply,” Truss said.
Also in his speech, the newly elected British Prime Minister promised to improve the country’s healthcare sector.
