The Hungarian government is again putting conditions for restrictions against Russia.

Hungary requests to be excluded from the “black” list of three Russian oligarchs. Otherwise, he threatens to block the extension of some parts of the EU sanctions regime against Russia. This was reported by Radio Liberty correspondent Rikard Jozwiak, citing diplomatic sources.

He reported that Budapest has called for the removal of Alisher Usmanov, Petr Aven and Viktor Rashnikov from the sanctions list.

Hungary is also requesting an exception for humanitarian organizations so they can do business with some Russian banks currently under sanctions.

In Brussels, they said Hungary was using the renewal of sanctions as leverage to get the EU funds that have so far been withheld for fear of violating the country’s rule of law.

Today, the EU list consists of 1217 individuals and 108 organizations of the Russian Federation.

It recently widened as Brussels tightened restrictive measures against Russia in response to its military aggression against Ukraine.

Usmanov, and Aven were added to the list at the end of February. In Brussels, Usmanov was described as “a pro-Kremlin oligarch with particularly close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.” He is also called one of “Putin’s favorite oligarchs” and is considered the president’s business manager.

Pyotr Aven was described as “one of the approximately 50 richest Russian businessmen who regularly meets with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.”

Rashnikov was added to the list in March. Brussels called him “a leading Russian oligarch who is the owner and chairman of the board of directors of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant.”

Remember, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that after the war between Russia and Ukraine, the West will be weaker than before it started. He believes that the Western countries will not be able to win the war in Ukraine by military means, and that the sanctions against Russia will not break it in any way.
