Until May 9, Kyiv plans to remove all names associated with the Russian Federation, including the names of streets and metro stations, the city mayor reports.
In Kyiv, the former square of friendship between Kyiv and Moscow in the Goloseevsky district was renamed, and until May 9 this year, all objects in Kyiv whose names are associated with the Russian Federation will be replaced by name. This was reported by the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko.
The new name of the former friendship square between Kyiv and Moscow is the square of the Heroes of Mariupol. We are talking about the square on Yakubovsky Street in Teremki, which previously had the unofficial name “the square of related cities in honor of the friendship between Kyiv and Moscow.” There used to be a memorial sign in the middle of the square, but it was dismantled last year.
“Today I submitted a draft decision on changing the name of the former square of friendship between Kiev and Moscow to the square of the Heroes of Mariupol. And the representatives supported this initiative,” said Klitschko.
According to the mayor, on Friday, March 15, several other objects in the city were renamed, draft decisions of which have already been prepared and passed the necessary procedures.
The name change process is ongoing, and on May 9, the city plans to remove all names associated with the Russian Federation, including the names of streets and metro stations.
“Their name change is relevant. Therefore, we are making new names to be given to streets, avenues, metro stations and other objects. We have set aside time for these procedures until May 9 .We will make a package and make a comprehensive decision at a meeting of the Kyiv City Council, “the mayor added.
Recall that the Uzhgorod authorities also plan to rename the streets named after different Russian numbers. Recently, 25 streets were renamed in Ivano-Frankivsk. In particular, he renamed Nekrasov Street to Heroes of Akhtyrka Street, Lermontov Street to Heroes of Mariupol, and Tchaikovsky to Vasily Slipak Street.
