Eight French glass manufacturers have begun the painstaking work of cleaning and restoring the 39 tall windows.
In Paris, cleaning and restoration work has begun on the stained glass windows of Notre Dame Cathedral, which were damaged by a massive fire three years ago. On Saturday, September 3, Reuters reports.
It was noted that most of the stained glass windows had withstood the heat and fire, but were heavily soiled by smoke and dust, blocking outside light and darkening the color scheme of the 170-year-old glass.
Eight French glassmakers have begun the painstaking work of cleaning and restoring the 39 tall windows in the nave, choir, transept and sacristy of the ancient cathedral.
The glass cleaning process involves gently wiping the surface with cotton wool soaked in water and ethanol, a delicate and repetitive process designed to pick up deposits without damaging the window.
The cathedral is closed for restoration, as a fire in April 2019 destroyed its roof, and the spire collapsed on the vaults.
According to plans to open the cathedral, which was built in the 12th century, they want in 2024, when the Olympic Games will be held in France.
It will be remembered that the start of work on the restoration of Notre Dame was announced in December 2021.
And in March 2021, it became known that 200-year-old oak trees were cut down in France for Notre Dame.
