On Friday, September 2, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, confirmed that two representatives of the organization will remain at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant when the mission ends. Grossi announced this at a press conference at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna.
The IAEA Director General recalled that on Thursday he led a mission with the participation of 15 experts of the organization, who spent some time at the Zaporozhye NPP.
“Six of our experts remain there. They will continue the work started yesterday. And after that, as I said in Kyiv after the visit to the Zaporozhye NPP, we will establish a permanent presence in the area – this time with the participation of two expert who will continue the work” , – he said.
Grossi also noted that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant “has a unique situation where the Ukrainian plant is controlled by Russia’s occupying forces,” adding that he will present a report on the situation to the IAEA’s executive board next week .
Recall that on September 1, a delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP in occupied Energodar. UN experts must assess the damage caused to a nuclear facility during the conflict.
